Queen of the Dust Hill is a highly coveted, heavily contested position among our young Umani girls, Amali and Mwana. Today, Amali took the crown — and looked mighty pleased with herself for doing so! — With dainty little tusks that wing out in either direction, Amali is easy to recognise. Unfortunately, she is also known for her distinctive trunk — the tip was severed by a poacher’s snare. Despite this, our girl has adapted marvellously and shines in our Umani herd. Amali means ‘hope’ in Swahili — and she is certainly a symbol of hope coming from very difficult beginnings.
